What Athletic/Sports Care Is
Athletic/Sports Care is chiropractic (and then some) built around how you move in your sport. We assess your joints, soft tissue, and movement patterns, then use targeted adjustments, sports-specific soft-tissue work, and corrective exercises to restore clean mechanics. Whether you’re a high-school athlete, weekend runner, Cross-Fitter, golfer, or mountain biker, the aim is the same: resolve pain quickly, prevent repeat injuries, and unlock performance you can feel on the field, court, or trail.
Our team blends hands-on care (spinal and extremity adjustments, myofascial release, instrument-assisted work, kinesiology taping) with practical rehab you can do at home or the gym. When appropriate, we integrate other in-clinic services- like Shockwave for stubborn tendinopathies or decompression for disc-related issues- so you recover faster and stay in the game. See our Shockwave Therapy tab for more information!
How Athletic/Sports Care Works
Sports injuries rarely happen in isolation. A “tight” hamstring might be compensating for a locked hip; shoulder impingement often starts with a stiff mid-back; shin splints show up when foot and ankle mechanics are off. We start by mapping those links with a movement screen, joint-by-joint testing, and sport-specific checks (running gait, squat/lift pattern, swing or throwing mechanics). Then we treat the root: free the restricted joint, release overworked tissue, and retrain the pattern so your body stops recreating the same problem.
Adjustments restore joint glide so muscles can fire at the right time. Soft-tissue techniques reduce trigger points and improve tissue slide. Corrective drills- simple, targeted, and time-efficient- lock in the change between visits. You get a plan that fits your training calendar, not one that derails it.
What Athletic/Sports Care Treats
We treat a variety of common issues for our athletes including but not limited to:
- Low-back strain, sciatica, SI joint pain
- Neck/mid-back tightness, rib fixations
- Hip impingement, IT-band/knee pain
- Hamstring, quad, calf, Achilles injuries
- Shoulder impingement, tennis/golfer’s elbow
- Plantar fasciitis, ankle sprains
- Overuse issues: runner’s knee, shin splints, jumper’s knee
If something falls outside our scope (e.g., suspected fracture or concussion management), we’ll refer and coordinate promptly. Your care and performance are our only priority.
Frequency of Treatments
Care follows the season you’re in:
Acute phase (new injury or flare)
1-2 visits per week, for 2-3 weeks to calm irritation, restore motion, and start light loading.
Rebuild phase
Weekly or every other week for 3-6 weeks while we progress strength, mobility, and sport-specific drills.
In-season maintenance / performance
Quick tune-ups every 2-4 weeks, plus pre-event and post-event recovery sessions as needed.
Off-season / prehab
Monthly check-ins to shore up weak links and build durability.
We’ll taper fast as you hit milestones and match the plan to practices, meets, and travel so you can keep competing.
What to Expect
First visit
We dig into your history, watch you move, test joints and muscles, and (if indicated) review imaging. You’ll get treatment on day one and leave with a firm understanding of how to move and heal better.
Follow-ups
Expect a focused mix of adjustments, soft-tissue work, and progressive loading. Sessions are efficient- most athletes are in and out in about 15 minutes- so you can get back to class, work, or training.
Between visits
We’ll give you a simple plan- combining mobility, strength, and recovery- that respects your current volume. You’ll know what to do on practice days, rest days, and game days to guard against further injuries.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will I have to stop training?
Usually no. We modify volume and movements so you can practice around the injury while it heals. The goal is smart training, not forced rest- unless safety says otherwise.
How fast will I feel better?
Many athletes feel relief in the first 1-3 visits. True durability comes as we rebuild strength and mechanics over a few weeks. We’ll set clear markers and milestones so you see progress.
Is this safe for youth athletes?
Yes. Techniques are scaled to age and size, with extra-gentle options when needed. We coordinate with parents and coaches so care supports growing bodies and busy schedules. For children also see our Pediatrics Adjustment tab for more information!
Do you work with other providers?
Absolutely. We collaborate with primary care, orthopedics, physical therapists, and school athletic trainers. We have full x-ray capabilities in-house to get the answers of what’s happening structurally.
Can I come in before a race or game?
Pre-event sessions focus on mobility, activation, and taping- never anything that would leave you sore. Post-event visits emphasize recovery so you bounce back faster.
What about insurance and cost?
Many plans cover chiropractic care; coverage for adjunct services varies. We’ll verify benefits up front and outline package options if you plan to utilize out-of-pocket care.
